Lesson 5: THE WHEEL OF LIFE - full talk
Richard Jones explains the Buddhist rich doctrine of the 'Wheel of Life' which describes how ALL physical and mental phenomena arise due to a previous cause. A simple process of causality (conditioning). Everything depends on something for its existence. Nothing is exempt from this except for the state of Nibbana. Things do not arise just by chance, by accident or by some outside agency - we are talking about a process of cause and effect. The Wheel of Life can be used to explain the life cycle of an individual, as well as the arising of suffering (dukkha) and the four noble truths. This doctrine of the Wheel of Life is also known as "Dependent Origination' or Conditioned Genesis (Paticca-Samuppada in Pali - which is the original language if the Buddhist Scriptures). . . . . . . . . . Richard Jones - How I Became a Dhamma Teacher
"What qualifies you to do any teaching?" How I Became A Dhamma Teacher is a tribute to our stupendous dhamma teacher, Richard Jones. He eschewed the limelight hence few of the thumbnails on this channel feature his image. This is the very the last video I made with our exceptional friend before he passed away on Monday 2 April 2018. He will be fondly remembered and much missed by his family, close friends and his many dhamma friends at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Buddhist Society and beyond. He was a stalwart supporter and dear friend to the Head Monk at the London Buddhist Vihara, Ven. Seelawimala and also the former Head Monk, Ven. Dr Vaijaranja. Richard with his unparalleled kindness and generosity gave his teachings and time as a volunteer for 30 years, supporting the students, the venerable monks and the wider sangha (dhamma community) without asking for anything in return. Richard agreed to these videos to help spread the teachings of the Buddha. He has enjoyed knowing these videos have been of benefit to many people. Even the week before his passing, Richard took the time to read and respond to comments on the channel; but he reminded me often "It is the teachings - not the Teacher". I know he is right, but it is difficult to agree entirely when one's teacher is Richard Jones... Kind, Generous, Humble, yet with magnificent erudition and knowledge of the Buddha's teachings. The first subscriber to comment on this channel after Richard's passing was Alfred Quinn. He did not know Richard had died and commented thus: 'This man is a giant of the dhamma'. I could not have put it better myself. A giant of the dhamma, and a giant in the hearts of many hundreds of people who have loved him and benefited immeasurably from his gifts. May Richard Jones Attain the Supreme Bliss of Nirvana.
